Public Interest Warning

Alleged Blockchain Recovery Scam Evidence

A documented case study showing pressure around crypto transfers, online accounts, alleged tax demands, and fear-based claims about legal consequences.

Important: This website is designed to help people recognise scam behaviour. It presents evidence supplied by Andrew Wright and highlights warning signs so others can avoid similar harm.

This case concerns communications with a person using the name William Brown in connection with an alleged blockchain or crypto recovery process. The transcript shows repeated calls, pressure to complete financial steps, claims about confidential balances, references to OKX and crypto transfers, and a disputed alleged tax payment before funds could supposedly be released.

Key Evidence Pull-Outs

These extracts show the strongest red flags in this case: pressure to use financial accounts, crypto transfer prompts, claims of secret balances, alleged tax demands, and threats of consequences if Andrew refused to continue.

“Please let me know when you are done with the bank.”

3 March 2026 — Banking pressure

“Can you turn on your laptop and text me back?”

19 March 2026 — Device-control warning sign

“Can you please try sending 1003?”

25 March 2026 — Specific transfer request

“Andrew this is not a scam, you have to calm down.”

27 March 2026 — Reassurance after doubts raised

“You are reaching out to regular OKX customer support. They don't have access to your confidential information...”

9 April 2026 — Undermining official support

“But it won't be available until you pay the tax.”

9 April 2026 — Advance-fee tax demand pattern

“If you walk away that will be classified as fraud.”

9 April 2026 — Legal-threat pressure

“We will close the case and return your money.”

22 April 2026 — Refund promise after challenge

Timeline of Events

The timeline below summarises the pattern shown in the transcript. The full redacted transcript appears further down this page.

💬 27 February 2026 — First contact and immediate calls

The conversation begins with “Hi”, followed by multiple call attempts and Andrew sending a crypto address. The early pattern is call-heavy rather than evidence-heavy.

🏦 3–5 March 2026 — Banking and crypto setup pressure

The contact asks Andrew to report back when he is “done with the bank”, sends an OKX verification link, and later mentions the price of Ethereum.

💻 11–19 March 2026 — Device access and online account activity

The conversation includes warnings about AnyDesk, repeated calls, a request to turn on the laptop, and discussion of a website and transfers.

💸 25–26 March 2026 — Transfer attempts and confirmation messages

The contact asks Andrew to try sending “1003”. Andrew later reports a successful transfer and an OKX email confirming that the transfer is on its way.

🧾 27–29 March 2026 — Tax document doubts

Andrew challenges the authenticity of a tax request, saying the document lacks identifiers, references, contact details, and proper authority markers.

🚨 8–9 April 2026 — Escalation and fear pressure

The contact claims there are alerts that Andrew is being scammed, says official OKX support cannot see confidential information, and claims money will not be available until tax is paid.

⚖️ 14–17 April 2026 — Police and legal department references

Andrew says the fraud squad and police are involved. The contact says a legal department would handle third-party enquiries.

🔵 20–23 April 2026 — Breakdown and refund promise

Andrew accuses the contact of scamming him. The contact later says the case will be closed and the money returned, while the final message supplies bank details, which are redacted in this public transcript.

How This Scam Pattern Works

This case shows a different style from a simple abusive refund scam. It appears closer to a staged crypto-recovery or investment-release scheme, where the victim is encouraged to believe large funds exist but must take extra steps before they become available.

  • Call pressure: Frequent calls can move the victim away from written evidence and create urgency.
  • Bank involvement: The victim is encouraged to complete bank-related steps and report back.
  • Crypto transfer prompts: References to OKX, Crypto.com, Ethereum, Revolut, and transfer amounts create a crypto-payment trail.
  • Fake tax framing: Alleged taxes or release fees are used to explain why funds cannot be withdrawn.
  • Undermining real support: The contact claims ordinary OKX support cannot see confidential information.
  • Legal threats: Refusing to continue is framed as fraud or as creating serious legal consequences.

Protect Yourself From Crypto Recovery Scams

Golden rule: If someone says you must pay a fee, tax, deposit, verification amount, or “unlocking” charge before receiving recovered crypto or investment funds, treat it as a serious scam warning.
  • Never rely on a third party who tells you official exchange support “cannot see” the real situation.
  • Do not pay alleged tax, verification, gas, compliance, release, or unlock fees to a private contact.
  • Never allow remote access to your computer, phone, crypto wallet, banking app, exchange account, or email.
  • Do not move money through Revolut, Crypto.com, OKX, Kraken, or any other platform because someone on WhatsApp tells you to.
  • Check every claim directly through the official website or app by typing the address yourself, not through links sent in a chat.
  • Pause immediately if the person becomes urgent, emotional, threatening, flattering, or says only they can save you.

What To Do If This Has Happened To You

Act quickly, but do not let the scammer rush you. Preserve evidence and speak to trusted official organisations.

  1. Contact your bank immediately. Tell them you may be the victim of authorised push payment fraud or crypto investment fraud.
  2. Freeze or secure affected accounts. Change passwords for email, banking, exchange accounts, and any device used during the scam.
  3. Remove remote access tools. Uninstall AnyDesk, TeamViewer, RustDesk, screen-sharing tools, and unknown browser extensions.
  4. Report it. In the UK, report to Action Fraud and speak to your local police if there is ongoing contact or threat pressure.
  5. Warn the exchanges. Contact OKX, Crypto.com, Kraken, Revolut, or any other platform involved using only official support channels.
  6. Keep the evidence. Save transcripts, screenshots, transaction IDs, wallet addresses, call logs, emails, and bank messages.
